Toronto to host men’s World League volleyball matches in May

Canada to face number-one Brazil, Poland and Finland

OTTAWA – Volleyball Canada announced today that Toronto will host the Canadian portion of the men’s World League volleyball tournament May 18-20 at the Ricoh Coliseum.

The World League will be part of an important and busy 2012 season for the Canadian squad, ranked 18^th in the world, which is also looking to land a spot in the Olympic Games. This is Canada’s first appearance in World League play since 2007.

The prestigious tournament, in its 23rd year, is a 16-country intercontinental tournament that takes place every summer, reaching all corners of the planet, offering worldwide TV coverage and the biggest cash prizes in the sport.

In Toronto, Canada will face its pool opponents Brazil, ranked number-one in the world, number-four Poland and number-27 Finland. There will be two matches each of the three days (one in the afternoon and one in the evening) for a total of six matches.

The exact schedule and match times are still to be confirmed and ticket information will be available soon.

The World League event will be part of a massive volleyball celebration that week in Toronto. The Canadian Open will be held from May 17-22 next door to the Ricoh Coliseum at the Direct Energy Centre with more than 10,000 players from 800 teams expected to compete, making it one of the largest amateur sports events in Canadian sports history.

Toronto présentera des matches de la Ligue mondiale de volleyball masculin en mai

Le Canada affrontera le Brésil, numéro un au monde, la Pologne et la Finlande

OTTAWA – Volleyball Canada a annoncé, aujourd’hui, que Toronto présentera la portion canadienne du tournoi de la Ligue mondiale de volleyball masculin qui aura lieu du 18 au 20 mai au Ricoh Coliseum.

La Ligue mondiale fera partie d’une saison 2012 importante et occupée pour la formation canadienne classée 18e au monde et qui essaie aussi de décrocher une place pour les Jeux olympiques. C’est la première participation du Canada à la Ligue mondiale depuis 2007.

Le prestigieux tournoi, à sa 23e année, est un tournoi intercontinental regroupant 16 pays qui a lieu chaque été aux quatre coins de la planète et offrant une couverture télévisée et la plus grosse bourse dans le sport.

À Toronto, le Canada affrontera ses adversaires de son groupe, soient le Brésil, classé numéro un au monde, la Pologne, classée quatrième, et la Finlande, classée 27e. Il y aura deux matches lors de chacun des trois jours (un en après-midi et un en soirée) pour un total de six matches.

L’horaire exact et les heures des matches sont encore à être déterminés et l’information sur les billets sera bientôt disponible.

La Ligue mondiale fera partie d’une importante fête de volleyball cette semaine-là à Toronto. L’Omnium canadien aura lieu du 17 au 22 mai à côté du Ricoh Coliseum, au Direct Energy Centre, avec plus de 10 000 joueurs de 800 équipes qui y sont attendus, en faisant la plus grosse compétition sportive amateur dans l’histoire sportive canadienne.
